Strafe runs are a killstreak reward that I love for several reasons. First, it doesn’t require a ton of kills so you will get it relatively often. Second, you can’t really shoot it down effectiely. Nothing burns the killstreak high like whipping out an AC-130 only get it shot down in 10 seconds.
So here’s the deal. Some of these little pointers apply to a lot of different killstreaks, and some of them are common sense. The strafe run killstreak reward calls in 5 choppers that strafe a path one way across the map, and then back, depending on how you line them up when you use the reward. Here’s the list of things to consider when calling in strafe runs:
1) As with any killstreak watch your game score, you don’t want to get stuck with it.
2) Wait for visibility via an AUV or other means. Make sure you get some targets don’t call it in unless you know where the kills are.
3) A strafe run uses the chopper guns and therefore it will not reach targets inside a building (unless through open ceilings or windows).
4) Strafe runs are most effective utilizing streets, or open areas via the length of the area. Call your strafe run in perpendicular to the streets or open areas very often results in your choppers shoot the side of buildings or ravine walls and very few kills.
Here are some images to illustrate the point:
